Katie Jurkiewicz’s art is bold and colorful, gestural and full of movement. As a landscape painter, Katie pursues a variety of themes. Some are inspired by travels near and abroad, others derive from complex tangles of plants and flowers. The work she has created for Heirloom Flats is called Overabundance.
Katie says, This work will be based both on my sketches of farms and farmland as well as many observational drawings of the local landscape (as a lifelong resident of central CT I am well versed in the local flora and fauna). My work is brightly colored, fluid and gestural. I paint directly on the floor onto unprimed canvas, letting the natural texture of the fabric bleed into the painting, this lends itself to the nature themes I tend to paint.
